Samsung’s forthcoming One UI 9 update, built upon Android 17, is poised to introduce significant enhancements to homescreen customization for Galaxy device users. Early glimpses into the updated ‘Home Up’ module from Samsung’s Good Lock suite reveal a suite of new features aimed at providing a more personalized user experience.
Enhanced Dock Customization
One of the standout additions is the ability to customize the ‘Favorites’ tray, commonly known as the dock. Users will have the option to modify the dock’s background by adding colors, applying blur effects, or even setting images behind their frequently used apps. Additionally, the number of apps displayed in the dock can now be adjusted independently from the homescreen grid, offering greater flexibility in app organization.
Advanced Multi-Finger Gestures
Another notable feature is the introduction of multi-finger gestures. Users can assign specific actions to gestures such as swiping in various directions or pinching. These gestures can be configured to perform tasks like launching apps, adjusting volume or brightness, opening search functions, or capturing screenshots, thereby streamlining navigation and enhancing usability.
These new capabilities build upon existing features of the Home Up module, which already offers customizable homescreen grid layouts, the ability to backup and restore settings, and adjustments to the task changer and share sheet.
The One UI 9 update is anticipated to debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 series, followed by a broader rollout to other Galaxy devices. The beta version is currently available for the Galaxy S26 series, indicating that a wider release is on the horizon.
These enhancements reflect Samsung’s commitment to providing users with a highly customizable and intuitive interface. By expanding personalization options and introducing advanced gesture controls, Samsung aims to cater to the diverse preferences of its user base, setting a new standard for user experience in the Android ecosystem.
