Google Introduces ‘Signatures’ App for Digital Signatures on Android

Google has begun the rollout of a new system application named ‘Signatures’ to Android devices, including its Pixel series and select models from other manufacturers. This app, introduced with the June 2026 Play system update, is designed to store users’ digital signatures, which can be created by drawing directly on the screen, typing, or scanning from an image.

The ‘Signatures’ app has been observed on devices such as the Google Pixel 10 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 following the installation of the June 2026 update. However, its availability appears inconsistent across devices; for instance, the Oppo Find X9 Ultra with the same update does not feature the app, while some OnePlus devices do.

Despite its deployment, the app’s functionality remains somewhat ambiguous. While it serves as a repository for digital signatures, the methods for utilizing these signatures within other applications or services are not immediately evident. Potential integrations with PDF editors, online form platforms like DocuSign, or other applications are plausible but have not been confirmed. Currently, accessing the app requires manually launching its activity components, indicating that full integration may still be in development.

Notably, the ‘Signatures’ app is absent from Google’s changelog for the June 2026 update, and there is no dedicated listing for it on the Google Play Store. This suggests that the app is being distributed exclusively through Play System Updates. The application, identified by the package name com.google.android.signature and version number 17, supports devices running Android 12 and newer versions, indicating a broad intended rollout.

As digital documentation becomes increasingly prevalent, the introduction of the ‘Signatures’ app could signify Google’s commitment to enhancing native support for digital signatures within the Android ecosystem. This move may streamline processes that require electronic signatures, reducing reliance on third-party applications. Users should anticipate further updates that clarify the app’s integration capabilities and expand its availability across more devices.
