Redmagic Astra 2 Gaming Tablet Set for Global Launch on July 17

Redmagic has officially unveiled its latest gaming tablet, the Astra 2, in China, with a global release scheduled for July 17. This new device aims to rival competitors like Lenovo’s Legion Tab by offering a compact yet powerful gaming experience.

The Astra 2 features a 9.06-inch OLED display with a 2.4K resolution, a 185Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness of 1,600 nits. The slim bezels measure just 4.9mm, enhancing the immersive visual experience.

Under the hood, the tablet is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, complemented by Redmagic’s proprietary RedCore R4 chip. This combination is designed to optimize rendering performance, touch responsiveness, and overall system efficiency. Notably, over 200 games will support 144Hz frame interpolation and 2K resolution on this device.

To manage heat during intensive gaming sessions, the Astra 2 employs a liquid cooling system utilizing industry-grade fluorinated liquid coolant, circulated through an active micro pump for efficient thermal management.

The device houses an 8,300 mAh battery and includes two USB-C ports for charging. While the Chinese variant supports up to 80W charging, specifications for the global model have yet to be confirmed.

Running on Redmagic OS 11.5, based on Android 16, the tablet also incorporates various AI features to enhance user experience. However, details regarding software support timelines remain unspecified.

In China, the Astra 2 is available in configurations of 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, 16GB RAM with 512GB storage, and 16GB RAM with 1TB storage, starting at 5,299 RMB. Global pricing has not been announced, but the previous generation launched at $499.

With its high-refresh-rate OLED display, robust processing capabilities, and advanced cooling system, the Redmagic Astra 2 is poised to make a significant impact in the gaming tablet market. Its global release on July 17 is highly anticipated by gaming enthusiasts seeking a portable yet powerful device.
