Apple to Remove AirPort Utility App from App Store

Apple has announced plans to remove the AirPort Utility app from the App Store, signaling the end of official support for its AirPort line of networking products. This decision was detailed in the release notes for the second developer beta of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27.

According to the release notes, AirPort Utility will soon be unavailable for new downloads from the App Store. Users who have previously downloaded the app will still be able to re-download it; however, its functionality on iOS 27 and later is not guaranteed. Similarly, on macOS 27, AirPort Utility will no longer be included with new installations. For users updating to macOS 27 with the app already installed, it will remain on the system, but its functionality is not assured.

This move aligns with Apple’s gradual phase-out of the AirPort product line. In April 2018, Apple officially discontinued its AirPort routers, including the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and AirPort Time Capsule. Despite the discontinuation, Apple continued to provide firmware updates for these devices, with the most recent security update released in June 2019.

More recently, in July 2025, Apple marked several AirPort products as ‘obsolete,’ including the AirPort Extreme 802.11ac, AirPort Express (2nd Generation), and AirPort Time Capsule models. This designation means that Apple no longer offers hardware servicing or support for these products.

As Apple continues to streamline its software offerings and focus on current technologies, the removal of the AirPort Utility app underscores the company’s shift away from legacy networking hardware. Users relying on AirPort devices should consider transitioning to alternative networking solutions to ensure continued support and security.
