iOS 27 Beta 2 Introduces ‘Write with Siri’ Feature

Apple’s latest iOS 27 beta 2 introduces ‘Write with Siri,’ a significant enhancement to the Apple Intelligence suite. This feature replaces the previous Writing Tools panel, offering a more integrated and intuitive experience for text editing across various applications.

When users engage in text editing, the keyboard now displays a ‘Write with Siri’ prompt. Activating this allows users to issue natural language commands to Siri for tasks such as generating new text, proofreading existing content, or rewriting documents in different styles. This streamlined approach eliminates the need for the earlier dedicated buttons like ‘Friendly’ and ‘Professional.’

In applications like Notes, or any that utilize standard system text components, users will notice this new functionality. Before typing, the keyboard’s suggestion bar prominently features the ‘Write with Siri’ action. If users begin typing without selecting it, a smaller Siri button appears alongside the usual predictive text suggestions.

Upon tapping the ‘Write with Siri’ button, an input field expands from the Dynamic Island, prompting users to describe their desired text operation. This integration with Siri allows for the incorporation of personal context into text generation tasks, enhancing the relevance and personalization of the output.

For instance, if a user requests Siri to rewrite an existing document, the system makes the changes and presents a panel at the bottom of the screen. This panel provides a snapshot comparison of the original and revised text, along with options to review changes, undo actions, or further edit with Siri.

Additionally, these features can be activated through voice commands without interacting with the keyboard. Siri’s on-screen awareness enables users to perform text operations in the currently focused app simply by speaking their requests.

It’s important to note that this is an early beta release, and features may evolve before the public release of iOS 27, anticipated in the fall. The ‘Write with Siri’ functionality is also available on macOS Golden Gate and iPadOS 27, extending its benefits across Apple’s ecosystem.

The introduction of ‘Write with Siri’ signifies Apple’s commitment to enhancing user productivity through AI integration. By simplifying text editing tasks and offering a more personalized experience, this feature has the potential to redefine how users interact with their devices for content creation and editing.
