DeepL Acquires Mixhalo to Enhance Live Event Translation

DeepL, a leader in AI-driven language translation, has acquired Mixhalo, a real-time audio streaming startup, to bolster its live event translation capabilities. This strategic move aims to provide seamless multilingual experiences at conferences and live events, addressing the common challenge of language barriers during such gatherings.

Founded in 2016 by Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger, violinist Ann Marie Simpson-Einziger, and Vik Singh, Mixhalo initially focused on enhancing concert audio experiences. Over time, the company expanded its services to include real-time audio solutions for sports and live events. With over $39 million in funding from investors like Fortress Investment, Founders Fund, Defy Partners, and Cowboy Ventures, Mixhalo has established itself as a significant player in the live event audio space.

Mixhalo’s CEO, Vik Singh, highlighted the synergy between the two companies, noting that Mixhalo has been a long-time DeepL customer. The collaboration emerged organically, with both companies recognizing the potential to integrate their technologies to improve live event translations. Singh also acknowledged the growing presence of voice AI models in the market, which, while beneficial, posed competitive challenges that made the partnership with DeepL a strategic fit.

DeepL has been expanding its offerings beyond text translation. In 2024, the company introduced voice-to-text translation capabilities in over 33 languages. By April 2026, DeepL launched a voice-to-voice translation suite designed for multilingual meetings. The acquisition of Mixhalo is set to extend these capabilities into the live event sector, providing real-time, accurate translations for attendees.

DeepL’s CEO, Jarek Kutylowski, emphasized that Mixhalo will serve both as a solution and a marketing use case, demonstrating DeepL’s technology in real-time environments like conferences. Additionally, the acquisition facilitates DeepL’s expansion into the U.S. market, with plans to open a new office in San Francisco, leveraging Mixhalo’s existing presence in the Bay Area.

In the competitive landscape, Mixhalo faces rivals such as Wordly AI and Palabra, a startup backed by Seven Seven Six. This acquisition positions DeepL to offer a comprehensive suite of translation services, combining text and voice capabilities to meet the diverse needs of global audiences.

By integrating Mixhalo’s real-time audio streaming technology, DeepL is poised to set a new standard in live event translation, enhancing accessibility and engagement for attendees worldwide. This move reflects a broader trend of AI companies expanding their portfolios to offer more holistic solutions, addressing the multifaceted challenges of global communication.
