Schlage Sense Pro Smart Lock Launches with Hands-Free Unlocking

Schlage has announced the upcoming release of its Sense Pro smart deadbolt, set to be available in the U.S. and Canada starting June 29. Priced at $399 in the U.S. and $549 in Canada, the lock will be sold through major retailers including Amazon, The Home Depot, and Lowe’s.

The Sense Pro leverages Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology to enable hands-free unlocking. Users can add a digital key to their Apple Wallet app, allowing the door to automatically unlock as they approach with a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch. This feature calculates the user’s speed, trajectory, and motion to ensure precise unlocking timing.

Notably, the deadbolt is designed without a traditional keyhole, emphasizing keyless entry. It includes a keypad for access via entry codes, supporting up to 250 unique codes. Built-in Wi-Fi allows for remote management through the Schlage Home app, where users can lock and unlock the door, set auto-lock schedules, and customize settings. Integration with Apple’s Home app is also supported.

Compatibility for hands-free unlocking includes Apple Watch Series 6 and later (excluding SE models) running watchOS 11.5 or later, and iPhone 11 and later (excluding SE models and certain other variants) running iOS 18.5 or later. The lock also supports Thread, enabling pairing with Thread-enabled Apple Home hubs like the Apple TV 4K (2nd and 3rd generation), HomePod (2nd generation), and HomePod mini.

The Sense Pro operates on disposable batteries with an estimated six-month lifespan and features a USB-C port for temporary power if needed. Schlage has indicated that support for Samsung Wallet and Google Wallet will be introduced later this year.

With the integration of UWB technology and hands-free unlocking, the Sense Pro represents a significant advancement in smart home security. Its compatibility with Apple’s ecosystem and future support for other platforms position it as a versatile option for users seeking seamless and secure access to their homes.
