Recent reports suggest that Apple is set to introduce its first MacBook with a touchscreen display. A leaker has stated that the device is “100% confirmed,” following earlier indications that production testing is underway, with a release anticipated in the coming months.
Historically, Apple has resisted integrating touchscreens into its MacBook lineup. In 2018, Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, expressed concerns about the ergonomics of touchscreen laptops, noting that lifting one’s arm to interact with a screen could be fatiguing. Despite this, the company has continued to explore the concept, as evidenced by patents describing touch-sensitive MacBook displays. One such patent from 2020 detailed a laptop screen capable of responding to finger inputs, suggesting ongoing internal discussions about the feature.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also weighed in on the topic. In September 2025, he predicted that a touchscreen MacBook Pro would debut by late 2026, emphasizing that such a development would further blur the lines between MacBooks and iPads. This aligns with other reports indicating that Apple is considering adding touch capabilities to its MacBook Pro lineup, potentially featuring OLED displays and new interface elements.
While these developments point toward a significant shift in Apple’s MacBook design philosophy, the company has yet to make an official announcement.
