Apple Unveils AI-Enhanced ‘Search or Ask’ Shortcut in iOS 27’s Dynamic Island at WWDC

Apple’s iOS 27 to Introduce ‘Search or Ask’ AI Shortcut in Dynamic Island

Apple is set to revolutionize user interaction with the upcoming iOS 27 by integrating a ‘Search or Ask’ AI shortcut directly into the Dynamic Island feature. This enhancement aims to provide a seamless and intuitive experience, allowing users to access advanced search capabilities and AI tools effortlessly.

According to reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new feature will transform Siri into an always-on agent capable of understanding personal data, operating across various applications, and engaging in more natural conversations. This redesigned interface will reside within the Dynamic Island, offering a centralized hub for AI interactions.

Users can activate this universal search experience by swiping down from the top-center of the screen from any location within iOS. Upon doing so, a ‘Search or Ask’ bar will appear within the Dynamic Island, providing a streamlined method to initiate searches or pose questions.

The interface is designed to resemble Spotlight Search but will deliver more advanced results, including additional data from within apps. A microphone button will be available for voice interactions, and the search field will allow users to switch between Siri and third-party AI tools such as ChatGPT or Gemini.

In addition to the ‘Search or Ask’ feature, Apple is reportedly redesigning Siri to support a chatbot-style conversation view, similar to applications like ChatGPT. Users will be able to swipe down on Siri’s floating result card to enter a threaded conversation mode, featuring inline app cards for weather updates, notes, and upcoming appointments.

Another notable addition is the inclusion of a ‘+’ button within Siri’s standalone app and chatbot interface, enabling users to upload images and documents directly into conversations.

Beyond these AI enhancements, iOS 27 is expected to introduce a customizable Camera app, redesigned tab bars across Apple applications, updated keyboard animations, and refinements to the Liquid Glass interface that debuted in the previous year.

Apple is anticipated to unveil iOS 27 and the revamped Siri during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 8.
