VSCO, renowned for its photo and video editing capabilities, has introduced Canvas, an AI-powered collaborative moodboard designed to enhance the creative processes of photographers and artists. This innovative tool allows users to import and edit photos using VSCO’s established editing suite, adjusting elements such as shadows, brightness, exposure, temperature, tint, grain, blur, vibrance, and hue.
A standout feature of Canvas is its AI integration, enabling users to generate images through text prompts. Additionally, the region prompt function allows for the selection of specific image areas, which can then be reimagined by the AI based on user-provided text inputs. Users can fine-tune the AI’s influence on these regions using an adjustable slider, facilitating the creation of diverse image versions. The variation button further empowers users to produce multiple iterations of a generated image, with control over the degree of deviation from the original.
Canvas also supports collaborative efforts, enabling users to share moodboards with team members or clients, fostering iterative development of creative concepts. VSCO’s CEO, Eric Wittman, highlighted the tool’s potential to streamline project ideation, noting that photographers often rely on platforms like Google Slides or Pinterest to convey their visions. Canvas aims to offer a more tailored solution for creators.
The development of Canvas leverages technology from Facet, an image editing startup acquired by VSCO in 2024. During its testing phase, Canvas demonstrated significant engagement, with over 84% of content generated utilizing its AI capabilities. Looking ahead, VSCO plans to integrate a feature allowing users to search and import photos directly from the VSCO platform into their moodboards.
The launch of Canvas aligns with a broader industry trend, as companies like Adobe have recently introduced AI-powered moodboards. Startups such as Visual Electric, Cove, and Kosmik are also exploring collaborative tools to support creative workflows.
Canvas is accessible to all VSCO users, with premium subscribers receiving additional credits for AI-driven image generation. This initiative underscores VSCO’s commitment to providing innovative tools that cater to the evolving needs of the creative community.
