Google’s Gemini App Introduces Proactive Assistance and New Voice Options
Google is advancing its Gemini app by introducing Proactive Assistance, a feature designed to deliver personalized suggestions at optimal times. This development aligns with Google’s objective to create a more personal, proactive, and powerful assistant.
The latest beta version of the Google app (17.18) reveals the Proactive Assistance feature, which aims to provide users with timely, personalized recommendations. During the setup process, users can select specific applications, such as Gmail and Calendar, that Proactive Assistance will utilize to generate suggestions. Additionally, the feature can access on-screen content and notifications to enhance its recommendations.
Google emphasizes user privacy and security with Proactive Assistance. The data permitted for use by this feature is processed entirely within a private, encrypted space on the user’s device. Importantly, this data is not employed for generative AI model training or subjected to human review, ensuring that user information remains confidential.
An example provided by Google illustrates the functionality of Proactive Assistance: if a user’s Calendar indicates an upcoming test, the Gemini app can proactively send a notification linking to a practice quiz it has generated. This proactive approach aims to assist users in staying prepared and organized.
In conjunction with Proactive Assistance, the Gemini app is also updating its voice options. The existing voice selections, referred to as Legacy voices, are being phased out. These included options such as Ursa, Nova, Vega, Pegasus, Orion, Eclipse, Capella, Lyra, Dipper, and Orbit. While specific details about the new voice options have not been disclosed, this change suggests a forthcoming enhancement in the app’s auditory experience.
These updates reflect Google’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the Gemini app’s functionality, aiming to provide users with a more personalized and proactive digital assistant experience.
