Apple’s New MacBook Pro Charger Redesign Causes Compatibility Issues with Extension Accessories

Apple’s New MacBook Pro Charger Redesign Sparks Compatibility Concerns

Apple’s latest 140W USB-C Power Adapter, accompanying the new 16-inch MacBook Pro models equipped with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, has introduced a subtle yet significant design change. This alteration has led to compatibility issues with Apple’s own extension accessories in certain regions.

Users who have recently purchased the updated MacBook Pro have observed that the included charger no longer functions with the Power Adapter Extension Cable, despite Apple’s product page still listing it as compatible.

The core of the issue lies in the redesigned internal male connector of the charger. Apple has transitioned from the previous modified C7 style to a slimmer, pill-shaped form. This new design prevents the existing extension cable, which features the older female connector, from fitting properly. Consequently, users are unable to utilize the extension cable or the discontinued World Travel Adapter Kit with the updated charger.

Reports confirm that this redesigned charger has appeared in countries such as Australia and China. However, users in other regions continue to receive the older, compatible version. This inconsistent rollout has left many consumers uncertain about which markets are affected. Apple has yet to clarify the extent of this change or whether standalone 140W adapters are subject to the same redesign.
