Apple Urges Immediate Update to iOS 15+ to Block New Cyber Threats

Apple Urges Immediate iOS Update to Shield Against Emerging Cyber Threats

Apple has issued a critical advisory urging iPhone users operating on iOS versions 13 and 14 to promptly upgrade to iOS 15 or later. This urgent call to action aims to protect users from sophisticated cyberattacks exploiting vulnerabilities in older iOS versions.

In a recent support document, Apple highlighted the emergence of advanced hacking tools, notably Coruna and DarkSword, which specifically target weaknesses in iOS versions ranging from 13 to 17.2.1. These exploit kits enable cybercriminals to compromise devices through malicious web content, posing significant risks to user data and privacy.

Apple’s statement emphasizes the importance of updating:

If your iPhone doesn’t have the latest software, update iOS to protect your data.

To counter these threats, Apple has released patches addressing the identified vulnerabilities. Users who have updated to the latest iOS versions, from iOS 15 through iOS 26, are safeguarded against these malicious exploits.

On March 11, Apple rolled out new updates for iOS 15 and iOS 16, specifically designed to mitigate these security issues. Devices still operating on iOS 13 or 14 are particularly vulnerable and require immediate attention. Apple plans to issue additional alerts to users of these outdated versions, prompting them to install a Critical Security Update in the coming days.

It’s noteworthy that all iPhones capable of running iOS 13 or 14 are eligible for an upgrade to iOS 15. Therefore, no devices are restricted to these older versions as their final software update.

In addition to software updates, Apple employs the Safe Browsing feature in Safari, activated by default, to block known malicious URLs associated with these attacks.

For users unable to update their devices immediately, enabling Lockdown Mode offers an alternative layer of protection against these cyber threats.
