Kevin Mandia’s Armadin Secures $190M to Revolutionize Cybersecurity with Autonomous AI Agents
Kevin Mandia, the visionary behind Mandiant, has embarked on a new venture with the launch of Armadin, an AI-native cybersecurity startup. This initiative has successfully secured $189.9 million in combined seed and Series A funding, marking a significant milestone in early-stage security startup financing. The funding round was led by Accel, with contributions from GV, Kleiner Perkins, Menlo Ventures, 8VC, Ballistic Ventures, and the CIA’s venture arm, In-Q-Tel.
Armadin’s mission is to develop autonomous cybersecurity agents capable of learning and responding to threats without human intervention. Mandia emphasizes the urgency of this innovation, highlighting the imminent rise of autonomous AI hackers. He warns that such technology can think, learn, and adapt, enabling attackers to execute complex cyberattacks in minutes—a process that previously took days.
To counteract these evolving threats, Armadin aims to equip cybersecurity professionals with automated agents, creating a robust defense against AI-powered attacks. Mandia is joined by co-founders Travis Lanham, former Google Cloud Security principal engineer; Evan Peña, former Mandiant executive; and David Slater, former Google SecOps engineer.
The substantial funding underscores the confidence investors have in Armadin’s potential to redefine cybersecurity. By leveraging autonomous AI agents, Armadin seeks to provide a proactive and adaptive defense mechanism, addressing the challenges posed by increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
