Google has unveiled Android 17 Beta 2, introducing significant refinements to the operating system’s privacy indicators. This update focuses on enhancing user awareness regarding the activation of sensitive features such as location services, camera, and microphone.
In this latest beta release, the traditional pill-shaped icons representing these features have been replaced with more compact, circular designs. Each icon now prominently displays a bold symbol that occupies the majority of the circle, facilitating quicker recognition. This design evolution aims to provide users with immediate visual cues when their device’s location, camera, or microphone is in use.
A notable aspect of this redesign is the efficient use of status bar space. When multiple privacy-sensitive features are active simultaneously, the corresponding icons are grouped together within a single pill-shaped indicator. Specifically, the camera and microphone indicators share a unified chip, while the location indicator maintains a distinct blue tag.
