Apple TV Expands MLS Access with Walmart Saturday Showdown and Unique iPhone Production

Apple TV Enhances MLS Coverage with Walmart Saturday Showdown Launching February 21

Apple TV is set to expand its sports programming by introducing the Walmart Saturday Showdown, a new series of Major League Soccer (MLS) games, starting February 21, 2026. This initiative aims to provide fans with enhanced access to MLS content, complementing the existing Sunday Night Soccer broadcasts.

In 2026, Apple TV subscribers in the United States will have the opportunity to watch MLS games for free, with select matches featured in the Sunday Night Soccer segment. The addition of the Walmart Saturday Showdown will offer fans even more soccer content over the weekends.

A distinctive aspect of the Walmart Saturday Showdown is its production approach. Content for this series will be filmed using iPhones, aligning with Apple’s Shot on iPhone campaign. This method will capture both the matches and fan interactions, providing a unique viewing experience. Highlights from these games will be accessible on both Walmart’s platform and Apple TV.

To promote the 2026 MLS season and the upcoming World Cup in February, MLS has released a promotional video titled The Call. This social-first campaign invites viewers to engage with MLS content and features renowned athletes such as Magic Johnson, Diego Luna, and Matt Freese.

In addition to the Walmart Saturday Showdown, Apple has announced several enhancements to its sports programming:

– Production Enhancements: All pre-game, half-time, and post-game content will now be produced on-site in both English and Spanish, moving away from previous remote productions.

– Partnership with EverPass: Apple has partnered with EverPass to stream Apple Sports properties in commercial establishments across the United States, broadening the reach of its sports content.

Apple’s commitment to sports content is evident through these initiatives. Alongside MLS and MLB games, Apple TV subscribers in the United States can also access Formula 1 races for free. The success of the F1 movie has even sparked discussions about a potential sequel.

The introduction of the Walmart Saturday Showdown underscores Apple’s dedication to providing diverse and immersive sports content to its audience.
