Fitbit Founders Launch Luffu: AI Platform for Streamlined Family Health Management

Fitbit Founders Introduce Luffu: An AI-Driven Solution for Family Health Management

James Park and Eric Friedman, the visionaries behind Fitbit, have unveiled their latest venture, Luffu, an artificial intelligence (AI) platform designed to assist families in proactively managing their health. This innovative intelligent family care system is set to launch as an application, with plans to expand into hardware devices in the near future.

Following their departure from Google two years ago, Park and Friedman are leveraging AI technology to alleviate the complexities associated with caregiving. Recent statistics indicate that approximately 63 million adults in the United States—nearly one in four—are family caregivers, marking a 45% increase over the past decade.

Luffu operates by utilizing AI to collect and organize family health data, recognize daily routines, and identify significant changes. This enables families to stay informed and address potential health concerns promptly.

Reflecting on his personal experiences, Park shared, At Fitbit, we focused on personal health—but after Fitbit, health for me became bigger than just thinking about myself. I was caring for my parents from across the country, trying to piece together my mom’s health care across various portals and providers, with a language barrier that made it hard to get complete, timely context from her about doctor visits. I didn’t want to constantly check in, and she didn’t want to feel monitored. Luffu is the product we wished existed—to stay on top of our family’s health, know what changed and when to step in—without hovering.

The founders highlight that while the current consumer health market offers numerous tools for individuals, real-life health management often involves multiple family members, including partners, children, parents, pets, and caregivers. Health information is frequently dispersed across various devices, portals, calendars, attachments, spreadsheets, and paper documents, making comprehensive monitoring challenging.

Luffu aims to centralize family health information, allowing users to track a wide range of details such as health statistics, dietary habits, medications, symptoms, laboratory tests, and medical appointments. Users can input health data through voice commands, text entries, or photographs. The platform proactively monitors for changes and provides insights and alerts, such as unusual vital signs or alterations in sleep patterns.

In discussions with Axios, Park and Friedman explained that users can pose questions in everyday language to inquire about their family’s health, such as Is Dad’s new meal plan affecting his blood pressure? or Did someone give the dog his medication?

Friedman emphasized the platform’s design, stating, We designed Luffu to capture the details as life happens, keep family members updated and surface what matters at the right time—so caregiving feels more coordinated and less chaotic.

Individuals interested in Luffu can join the waitlist for the limited public beta to experience the platform firsthand.
