iPhone 18 Pro to Feature a More Compact Dynamic Island Design
Recent leaks suggest that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models will showcase a significantly reduced Dynamic Island, marking a notable evolution in the device’s display design.
The leaker known as Ice Universe has reported that the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro will be approximately 35% narrower than its predecessor. Specifically, the width is expected to decrease from around 20.7mm to approximately 13.5mm. This reduction aims to provide users with a more immersive screen experience by minimizing the visual intrusion of the cutout.
The Dynamic Island, introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro series, serves as a versatile area that adapts to various notifications and activities, enhancing user interaction. The anticipated size reduction in the iPhone 18 Pro models indicates Apple’s commitment to refining this feature for a more seamless integration into the display.
Earlier reports from The Information hinted at the possibility of under-screen Face ID technology in the iPhone 18 Pro models, which would have allowed for the elimination of the pill-shaped cutout, leaving only a small hole-punch for the front camera. However, the latest insights suggest that only the Face ID’s flood illuminator will be relocated beneath the screen. Consequently, while the Dynamic Island will become smaller, it will not be entirely removed.
Display industry expert Ross Young has indicated that this smaller Dynamic Island design is expected to persist through at least 2027. This suggests that a completely seamless display without any cutouts may still be a few years away.
