Google Clock 8.5 Introduces ‘Swipe to Dismiss’ Feature for Alarms
Google has unveiled version 8.5 of its Clock app for Android, introducing a ‘swipe to dismiss’ feature for alarms. This update enhances user interaction by allowing alarms to be dismissed with a simple swipe gesture.
Upon updating to version 8.5, users will receive a prompt informing them of the new functionality: You can swipe or tap to dismiss your alarm. This addition is accompanied by a new setting labeled Dismiss alarm with a, offering two options:
– Tap: Features large, pill-shaped buttons themed with Dynamic Color.
– Swipe: Presents Snooze on the left and Stop on the right, with guiding animations within the container.
The swipe gesture introduces a slight increase in interaction, potentially aiding users in becoming more alert when silencing alarms. This update aligns with the Phone app’s Material 3 Expressive update, which introduced a similar Incoming call gesture in the previous year.
The rollout of this feature is being conducted server-side following the installation of version 8.5 of Google Clock, which became widely available last week. Currently, the feature has been observed on select Pixel devices.
In addition to the swipe functionality, this release includes a Material 3 Expressive slider, replacing the previous Material 2 component. The updated slider features a thicker, pill-shaped track and a more substantial handle. When adjusted, it displays values ranging from 1.00 to 7.00.
