OpenAI Expands ChatGPT Go to the U.S. and Introduces Advertising in Free and Go Tiers
OpenAI has recently unveiled significant updates to its ChatGPT platform, notably the global rollout of the ChatGPT Go subscription plan, now available in the United States, and the initiation of advertising tests within certain ChatGPT tiers for U.S. users.
Global Availability of ChatGPT Go
Initially launched in India, ChatGPT Go has progressively expanded to over 170 countries. As of today, this plan is accessible in all regions where ChatGPT operates, including the U.S., at a monthly subscription rate of $8.
With this expansion, ChatGPT now offers three distinct subscription tiers globally:
– ChatGPT Go: Priced at $8 per month, this plan offers enhanced features beyond the free version.
– ChatGPT Plus: At $20 per month, this tier provides more advanced capabilities.
– ChatGPT Pro: For $200 per month, users gain access to the most comprehensive set of features.
Positioned between the free plan and ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Go offers increased flexibility and functionality without the higher cost associated with the more advanced tiers.
Features of ChatGPT Go
Subscribers to ChatGPT Go will experience several enhancements over the free plan, including:
– Increased Usage Limits: Users can send ten times more messages, upload more files, and generate more images.
– Access to GPT-5.2 Instant: This feature comes with fewer usage restrictions, allowing for more seamless interactions.
– Extended Memory and Context Window: ChatGPT Go can retain more information about user interactions over time, leading to more personalized and context-aware responses.
For tasks requiring deeper reasoning capabilities, users may still prefer ChatGPT Plus or ChatGPT Pro, which include access to GPT-5.2 Thinking.
Introduction of Advertisements in Free and Go Tiers
In conjunction with the ChatGPT Go expansion, OpenAI has confirmed plans to begin testing advertisements within the ChatGPT platform in the United States. This testing phase will affect logged-in adult users on the free tier and ChatGPT Go. Notably, the Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans will remain free from advertisements.
OpenAI detailed the advertising approach in a recent blog post:
> To start, we plan to test ads at the bottom of answers in ChatGPT when there’s a relevant sponsored product or service based on your current conversation. Ads will be clearly labeled and separated from the organic answer.
Users will have the ability to understand why a particular ad is displayed and will have the option to dismiss it if desired.
Commitment to Privacy and Content Standards
OpenAI has emphasized that the introduction of advertisements will not compromise the integrity of ChatGPT’s responses. User conversations will not be shared with advertisers, and the company has pledged never to sell user data.
Advertisements will be excluded from conversations involving sensitive or regulated topics, such as health, mental health, and politics. Additionally, accounts identified as belonging to users under 18 will not be exposed to advertisements.
> Ads support our commitment to making AI accessible to everyone by helping us keep ChatGPT available at free and affordable price points.
OpenAI has stated that it will refine the advertising experience based on user feedback, ensuring that at least one paid tier remains entirely ad-free at all times.
