VSCO Introduces AI-Powered Prompt-Based Image Editing for Enhanced Creative Control
VSCO, a leading photo editing application, has unveiled a groundbreaking feature within its AI Lab: prompt-based image editing. This innovative tool allows photographers to modify their images using simple textual descriptions, streamlining the editing process and expanding creative possibilities.
‘Edit in Your Own Words’
In collaboration with Black Forest Labs, VSCO launched the AI Lab last year, aiming to integrate advanced AI capabilities into photographers’ workflows. The initial offerings included the ‘Remove’ and ‘Upscale’ tools, both leveraging Black Forest Lab’s FLUX.1 Kontext model alongside VSCO’s proprietary technology.
The latest addition, ‘Prompt,’ enables users to edit photos by providing written descriptions of the desired outcome. This feature allows for adjustments in lighting, tone, and other elements, facilitating a quicker transition from editing to final delivery.
Growing AI Adoption Among Photographers
Despite some public skepticism, the adoption of AI in photography is accelerating. A recent survey commissioned by VSCO, involving 400 professional and aspiring photographers in North America, revealed that 83% are already incorporating AI into their work. Notably, 29% began using AI tools in 2025, while 38% have been utilizing them for a longer period.
Furthermore, 55% of respondents view AI primarily as a production assistant, aiding in tasks such as editing, retouching, culling, and other repetitive post-production activities.
Conclusion
VSCO’s introduction of prompt-based image editing marks a significant advancement in AI integration within photography. By enabling users to edit images through textual prompts, VSCO is simplifying the editing process and empowering photographers to achieve their creative visions more efficiently.
