YouTube Tests New Dislike Button Placement and Terminology on Shorts

YouTube Shorts Experiments with Dislike Button Placement and Terminology

YouTube is currently testing modifications to the Dislike button within its Shorts platform, aiming to refine user feedback mechanisms and enhance content personalization.

In this experimental phase, some users have observed the relocation of the Dislike button from its traditional spot beneath the video to the overflow menu, accessible via the three-dot icon in the top-right corner. Conversely, the Like button remains prominently displayed in its usual position.

Additionally, YouTube is exploring changes in the terminology associated with negative feedback. Certain users now encounter the options Dislike and Not interested presented separately, while others see a combined option labeled Not interested accompanied by the thumbs-down icon. This approach acknowledges that viewers often use these terms interchangeably and seeks to determine the most effective method for users to communicate their content preferences.

To gather user insights, YouTube is providing optional surveys to participants in this experiment upon selecting either feedback option. Users can also share their thoughts directly through the YouTube app.

These adjustments are part of YouTube’s ongoing efforts to optimize user engagement and content recommendation algorithms. By refining feedback tools, the platform aims to better align content offerings with individual viewer interests.
