Wabi: The New Frontier in App Creation and Sharing
Eugenia Kuyda, the visionary behind the AI companion platform Replika, is pioneering a new venture named Wabi. This innovative platform is designed to democratize app development, enabling users to create and share mini-applications effortlessly, akin to how YouTube allows for video sharing.
Launched in beta last month, Wabi has already secured a substantial $20 million in pre-seed funding. The investment roster boasts prominent figures such as AngelList co-founder Naval Ravikant, Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan, Twitch co-founder Justin Kan, Replit CEO Amjad Masad, Notion co-founder Akshay Kothari, Neuralink co-founder DJ Seo, and Conviction founder Sarah Guo.
Anish Acharya, a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, expressed confidence in Kuyda’s foresight, stating, It’s very rare to find someone who’s got a track record for predicting what consumers will want, and we think she’s doing it again.
Wabi enters a competitive landscape alongside vibe-coding tools like Cursor and Lovable, as well as no-code AI platforms such as Emergent, Replit, and Bloom. However, Wabi distinguishes itself by offering an integrated platform that encompasses creation, discovery, and hosting, eliminating the need for traditional app stores.
Kuyda emphasized the platform’s user-friendly nature, stating, This was really made to help people who have nothing to do with coding or the tech world to very quickly create apps from their daily lives. Users can simply input prompts like build me an AI therapy app, and Wabi will handle the rest, suggesting features and constructing the app without requiring any coding knowledge.
Recently, Wabi introduced social features to its beta users, including the ability to like, comment, and remix existing apps, as well as explore user profiles to see what others have created or enjoyed.
