In March 2025, Apple announced a postponement of its anticipated more personalized Siri enhancements, initially introduced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in 2024. This delay led to a class action lawsuit from consumers alleging false advertising regarding the unreleased Apple Intelligence features. Apple has now filed a motion to dismiss this lawsuit, presenting several key arguments.
Focus on Two Specific Features
Apple’s legal team emphasizes that the lawsuit centers on the delay of two specific Siri-related features: Siri Personal Context Awareness and Siri In-App Actions. The company asserts that these features were postponed to ensure they meet Apple’s stringent quality standards. Apple contends that the delay of these two features does not substantiate the broad claims made in the lawsuit.
No Allegation of Product Defect
In its filing, Apple points out that the plaintiffs do not claim that the iPhone 16 models they purchased are defective. The company notes that all plaintiffs continue to use their devices and will receive the delayed features at no additional cost through future software updates. Apple also highlights that the plaintiffs have not specified which statements or advertisements influenced their purchasing decisions.
Delivery of Other Apple Intelligence Features
Apple underscores that, despite the delay of the two features in question, over 20 Apple Intelligence features have been successfully rolled out since the previous fall. These include Writing Tools, Smart Replies, Genmoji, and Image Playground. Apple describes these updates as groundbreaking and transformative, demonstrating the company’s commitment to delivering on its promises.
Clear Communication of Phased Rollout
The company also argues that it has been transparent about the phased rollout of Apple Intelligence features, indicating that they would be delivered over time and continue to evolve. This phased approach was communicated to manage user expectations and ensure the quality of each feature upon release.
Request for Dismissal
With this motion, Apple is requesting the court to dismiss the lawsuit in its entirety, aiming to prevent further discovery or trial proceedings. If the judge grants this request, the case would be concluded before advancing to the next stage of litigation.
