8BitDo Unveils Flip Pad: Portable Game Controller for Android and iPhone Emulators Debuts at CES 2026

8BitDo’s Flip Pad: The Ultimate Portable Controller for Android Emulators

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026, 8BitDo unveiled its latest innovation: the Flip Pad, a USB-C controller designed specifically for Android and iPhone devices. This sleek gamepad attaches directly to the top of your smartphone screen, offering an optimal solution for enthusiasts of vertical, half-screen games, particularly those using emulators.

The Flip Pad’s design is remarkably slim, protruding only a few millimeters above the phone’s display. Despite its thin profile, the buttons provide a satisfying tactile response with ample travel, ensuring a comfortable gaming experience. The controller’s layout is well-suited for classic games like Mario, though the placement of trigger buttons at the top may present challenges for certain titles. To protect the screen and maintain stability during gameplay, the underside of the Flip Pad features a rubberized surface that prevents slipping.

During a hands-on session at CES 2026, the Flip Pad was tested with a OnePlus device running a Mario emulator. The controller performed admirably, fitting securely atop the screen and delivering a natural feel. While it doesn’t entirely replicate the experience of traditional handheld consoles like the Game Boy—due to the narrower dimensions of modern smartphones—it comes impressively close.

8BitDo has yet to announce the pricing for the Flip Pad, but it is slated for release in the summer of 2026. The company emphasizes the controller’s broad compatibility, noting that it is officially supported by Apple, making it an appealing option for both Android and iPhone users.

In the ever-expanding market of Bluetooth game controllers, the Flip Pad stands out with its unique form factor and thoughtful design, catering specifically to the needs of emulator enthusiasts seeking a portable and efficient gaming solution.
